How can busy primary school teachers build their capacity to develop creativity and critical thinking (CCT) in their students? This course will train and equip K-6 teachers to: explicitly teach CCT capability; integrate CCT into their classroom programs and daily routines; plus scaffold their students to use critical and creative thinking when solving problems and completing projects (and all this without requiring extra after-hours research and preparation!​)

  Completing the course Creativity and Critical Thinking: Key Competencies for the 21st Century will contribute 3 hours of NESA-registered PD addressing 3.3.2 and 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher accreditation. Proficient level teachers registerd with NESA will have their hours validated on the NESA system within 10 working days.

 All other Australian teachers are entitled to put these hours towards their accreditation as "teacher-identified PL" (TIPD). Supporting evidence for this is supplied upon course completion).

 

 The content of this course is both evidence-informed and Australian Curriculum-linked.

    TEACHING RESOURCES!  Upon completion of this course the comprehensive Minds Wide Open CCT Teacher's Toolkit is provided to you free in digital format. This 6GB kit includes: program documents, teaching units, lesson plans, K-8 learning continuum, classroom posters, interactive songs, activity cards, videos, assessment rubrics, student blackline masters, merit certificates and more. Australian Professional Standards for Teachers​ - standard descriptors addressed in this course

3.3.2  Select and use relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative thinking (CCT).

6.2.2  Participate in learning to update knowledge and best practice targeted to professional needs and school priorities.

 

Professional Objectives

The aim of this course is for you to achieve the following objectives aligned to the above Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST):

  1. You will gain an array of strategies, tools and resources that enable you to teach and equip your students with critical and creative thinking (CCT) skills which they can apply in their daily learning and problem-solving tasks (APST 3.3.2).

  2. You will learn that CCT can not only be taught but also measured. You will take away a range of CCT student feedback and assessment tools.

  3. Many schools have included creativity and critical thinking and 21st century learning as goals in their school plan or Strategic Directions. The information in this course will give teachers and leaders some useful means and methods to assist them in accomplishing this in their class or school (APST 6.2.2).
